Insights from the District of Columbia
Greetings from the DC Metro Chapter! The District, Maryland, Virginia area is an extraordinary hotbed of startup and early-stage venture activity. This Chapter is comprised of an incredibly diverse range of members including tech gurus, IP experts, biotech specialists, former government employees, realtors, financial professionals, C suite executives, scientists, entrepreneurs, cyber hackers, CPAs, and of course, lawyers. Our attendees travel from as far as north as Baltimore and south as Manassas.
Despite Beltway traffic challenges, participation in Forum meetings is fairly strong. In fact, I have been told that we have some of the liveliest and most insightful mindshare and after Forum sessions of any Chapter.
One of my short-term goals is to garner more interaction amongst our members and sponsors outside of the Chapter Forums. I believe that one of our newest Chapter Sponsors will be of significant help in that regard. Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati are interested in hosting educational workshops and social sessions.
Speaking of Sponsors, our Host Sponsor, the Association of Enterprise Growth (AEG) has provided exceptional meeting space for us in Bethesda for over the past year. AEG (https://enterprisegrowth.org/ ) is a nonprofit network of proven expert advisors helping business owners and executives grow value, maximize wealth and live a good life. They use proprietary technologies and processes to integrate personal, business and market perspectives, applied across the business lifecycle, to grow enterprise value and maximize personal wealth.
Our newest Sponsor, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati is a premier legal advisor to technology, life sciences, and other growth enterprises worldwide. WSGR represents companies at every stage of development, from entrepreneurial start-ups to multibillion-dollar global corporations, as well as the venture firms, private equity firms, and investment banks that finance and advise them. The firm's broad range of services and practice areas are focused on addressing the principal challenges faced by the management, boards of directors, shareholders, and in-house counsel of its clients. WSGR has particular depth and breadth of expertise in the Life Sciences.
We want to grow our DC Metro Chapter significantly. Members, Partners, and Sponsors are encouraged to get the word out about Keiretsu Forum, remind everyone that it is one of the premier, if not THE Premier Angel Investment Network in the world; and to invite accredited investors and other potential sponsors to attend one of our Forums. Additionally, we all should be taking advantage of the upcoming Angel Capital Expo in Wednesday, October 17th at the Philadelphia Union League. It is a unique opportunity to network, mindshare, and collaborate with professionals from around the region and from many different disciplines.
As always, if any of our Members or Guests have any suggestions on how to improve our Chapter, please let Fred know.
